The Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating the death of an inmate at Northern Nevada Correctional Center as a homicide.

The inmate was found Saturday morning and staff tried unsuccessfully to revive the victim but were unable to do so.

A spokesman said NNCC, which is located along Carson City’s southern boundary, is locked down. It will remain so until normal operations are restored.

The Carson City coroner’s office responded to the scene to examine the victim’s body.

According to a release issued by prison staff, no further information is available at this time.
