Prep roundup: Carson’s win streak never at ‘Riske’ in VB

The Carson High volleyball team stayed in a first place tie with Manogue in the Sierra League with its 11th straight league win, beating Wooster in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 on Tuesday in Reno.

The trio of Jaycie Roberts and middle blockers Kylie Riske and Maddie Jergensen had big nights for Carson. Roberts averaged more than five kills a game with 16 kills and seven assists, Jergensen had eight kills and four blocks and Riske added five kills, one block and three digs.

“The middles really stepped up big,” Carson coach Robert Maw said. “Kylie Riske and Maddie Jergensen had a great night at the net and obviously so did Jaycie Roberts.”

Also for the Senators, Alison Kibbe had one ace, one kill and two digs, Juliana Anderson had seven kills and four digs,

Keelin Pilgrim had three kills and four digs, Makenzie Tucker had two aces and 13 digs, Maya Vasquez had one kill, Natalie Anderson had three kills, 36 assists and four aces and Sarah Christl added two aces, one kill and six digs.

Carson will host Galena at 6 p.m. Thursday at Morse Burley Gym on Pinky and Parent Night in which all donations will go to cancer research.

Muckers sweep Hawthorne

VIRGINIA CITY — Niki D’Agostino had eight kills, five digs and 10 aces to lead the Muckers to an easy 25-18, 25-11 and 25-13 win Tuesday night.

Nicole Huffman had six kills, 12 assists, four digs and two aces for VC, while Bethany Fuller added five kills, two digs and an assist.

VC is 12-1 in league and 20-3 overall.

BOYS SOCCER

Carson blanks McQueen

RENO — Ryan Galvan continued his scoring surge with two more goals in a 3-0 win over McQueen in a make-up game on Monday.

The win moved Carson to 8-4-1 overall heading into today’s showdown with league-leading Galena.

Alejandro Gonzalez scored the other Carson goal. Goalie Jose Moreno recorded the shutout, subbing in for Efren Ramirez who was out after getting a red card last weekend against Wooster.

GOLF

Krupp ties for 33rd

RENO — Taylor Krupp shot 102 and 105 at the state golf meet held Monday and Tuesday at Somersett Country Club.

She tied for 33rd place out of 55 golfers.

Spanish Springs’ Katrina Prendergast won with a 36-hole total of 154, six shots better than McQueen’s Alice and Michelle Duan.

JV CROSS COUNTRY

CHS boys 2nd, girls take 4th

SPARKS — More than 20 CHS runners posted new season bests at the Northern Division I JV meet Tuesday afternoon at Lazy 5 Park.

The Carson boys placed second with 70 points and a team time of around 1-hour 35-minutes.

The girls were fourth with a team time of 2-hours 34-minutes.

Miles Bean led the JV boys with an 18:01, 18 seconds better than his previous best. Kiefer Catron was 12th in 18:37, Hector Gomez was 16th with a PR of 19:07, Evan Allred was 17th with a season-best of 19:12 and Adam Maw had a PR with a 19:22 en route to finishing 23rd. Shane Morton was 26th n 19:39, also a PR.

Kara Bergren led the CHS girls, finishing 21st in 24:14, more than two minutes better than her previous best.

Chloe Hataway was 30th in a season best 24:43, McKenzie Cartier was 34th in a season best of 24:56, Kyndra Holloway was 35th in 25:02, her best time of the year.

Maeve Hoerth was 37th in 25:24, a season-best mark, and Bethany Winder was 38th, also with a PR of 25:32.
