Car on fire. The Gold Hill News of last evening informs us that the passenger car attached to the 8 o’clock train from Carson caught fire at Mound House yesterday morning. The fire originated in the upper portion of the car, in the vicinity of the stovepipe. A Babcock fire-extinguisher rendered good service in squelching the conflagration.

It is a surprising the number of people who feel themselves at liberty to dictate the manner in which the business of a newspaper should be conducted, but who would resent as impertinence any newspaper suggestion in regard to their own affairs. — Times Review. We should judge from the above that some Carson people had moved to Tuscarora.

Samuel J. Raber, former cafe entertainer in Reno who was convicted in the murder of Cherry de St. Maurice in Sacramento, heard again his death sentence passed for execution Dec. 18 at Folsom prison.

70 years ago

Bomber tail gunner visits in Carson. S/Sgt. John Foster, nephew of Col. and Mrs. R.M. Elston and cousin of Jim Foster, is spending three weeks at the Elston home. Foster is a tail gunner on a Liberator bomber and on his 40th mission the engines were shot out at 26,000 feet over Romania. He and the balance of the crew were held prisoner for four months until the fall of Romania. Foster received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.

September attendance at the Nevada State Museum this year reached an unprecedented 23,242 visitors compared to 11,683 visitors the same month last year.
