Spikers fall to Dayton

The end didn’t come without a bit of drama.

The Fallon volleyball team suffered a 25-13, 25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 10-15 loss to Dayton on Friday and eliminated the Lady Wave from playoff contention.

Trailing 2-0, the Dust Devils turned to Cheyanne Strong, who led Dayton with 18 kills, while Shalia Powell added eight and Kaylee Turner and Kassie Strong each had six.

Powell also registered 35 kills as Dayton, last year’s state runner-up, kept its Northern Division I-A playoff hopes in tact. Dayton (9-6 league) closes the season with Fernley (2-12), while Fallon (5-9) battled Fernley on Tuesday (results not available at press time) and caps the season at Sparks (0-13) today.

South Tahoe (8-7), is still alive for a playoff spot with a win over Truckee (10-4) and a Dayton loss.
