Reward offered in Ranchos arsons

A reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of whoever set a rash of fires in the Gardnerville Ranchos on Aug. 24.

The first fire was reported 1:39 a.m. in a vacant lot behind 1309 Langley Ave. The fire spread to an NV Energy power pole serving a 16-unit apartment building. Firefighters extinguished the fire as a power company crew worked to keep the electricity on to the apartments.

While firefighters and deputies were there, a second fire was reported behind the Frontier telephone exchange located south on Tillman Lane from the Langley street address. As firefighters responded to the scene, another fire was reported in a vacant field further south along Tillman Avenue. All three fires were quickly extinguished.

Damage to the apartment electrical system, fence and exterior wall is estimated to be about $2,500, Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Broosk said. Damage to the NV Energy pole and equipment is unknown at this time. The investigation continues.

Neighbors reported seeing young men in the vicinity, prior to discovering the fires.
