Lester H. Groth: Son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Groth and formerly an employee of the Daily Appeal has been promoted to mail specialist second-class in the United States Navy. His wife, Marge, lives in San Francisco.

Memorial: A grieving mother asked that the state enact a law forbidding boys and girls younger than 18 to drive autos. “These kids shouldn’t be driving at that age,” said Mrs. Robert Pumphrey, mother of Douglas Pumphrey, 16, who died in an auto crash Labor Day. The boy’s father, pastor of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, prepared for conducting his son’s funeral service.
