As September is National Recovery Month, this community is again coming together in celebration.

This year’s Family Fun Day picnic and events will be held on Saturday at Venturacci Park.

According to Lana K. Robards, executive director at New Frontier, events will include the 5K Color Walk/Run, the annual Kara Kelly-Borgognone Memorial event that includes games and activities specifically for children, a skate board exhibition, a martial arts exhibition and a huge free barbecue with hamburgers and hotdogs and all the fixings.

Instead of having the annual softball game in Kara’s memory, Robards said the event will be donating a $1,000 scholarship in her name to a Churchill County graduate who is entering the field of criminal justice. Robards said the Navy will be taking an active part in the event as well as other local businesses.

To view activities and scheduling for that day, visit the website at www.churchillrecovery.org and also on the Churchill Community Coalition website www.churchillcoalition.com.

“We hope that we can again count on your support through whatever means you wish, whether that is by your attendance and support or by monetary or other donations,” Robards said. “This is where we come together as a community – our family, friends and neighbors. As we all have come to know, addiction does not discriminate.”

Cash donations, which are much needed, should be made payable to New Frontier Treatment Center, P.O. Box 1240, Fallon, NV 89407. Merchandise and/or gift certificates for door prizes should be directed to the New Frontier Treatment Center staff at 775-423-1412. Robards said the staff can come and pick up the donation.

“We have many fun games, gift bags and events scheduled for our children, so any contributions towards prizes for them would also be greatly appreciated,” she said.

Individuals who have questions regarding the event are encouraged to call Robards or the New Frontier office at 775-423-1412.
