Prep roundup: Carson boys tennis falls to Huskies

Perennial powerhouse Reno pounded Carson, 16-2, in a Northern Division I boys tennis match in Carson Tuesday afternoon.

The loss dropped Carson to 6-2 heading into Thursday’s match against McQueen.

Carson won one singles match and one doubles match.

Taylor Saarem went 1-1, winning 7-5 and losing 6-0. Jake Jones went 0-2, losing 6-0 and 6-1. Zach Simms went 0-2, losing 6-4 and 6-0. Brett Patterson, Charlie Adams and Nick Rosen each went 0-1.

In doubles, Jared Hearn and Trevor Sollberger went 1-1, winning 6-4 and losing 6-0. Kyle Kunz and Aaron Woodbury, Carson’s top doubles team went 0-2, losing 6-0 and 7-5. Jayson Artz and Nico Salm went 0-2, losing 6-2 and 6-0. The teams of Clayton Sollberger and Alek Henricksen, Jon Ventura and Chris Lawrence, and Aaron Fliegler and Scott Coolbaugh all went 0-1.


VOLLEYBALL

Dayton sweeps Sparks

The Dust Devils snapped a three-match losing streak with a 25-10, 25-10 and 25-14 win over Sparks Monday night.

Dayton is now 1-3 in league and 7-5 overall.

Kaylee Turner had six kills, two blocks, two digs and an ace, while Rachel Hadley had seven kills, four aces and two digs. Makena Olsen finished with six kills and Shalia Powell had 23 assists. Kallie Strong had three kills and two aces.

Dayton plays Lovelock today at 5 in a home match.

Virginia City tops Whittell

Niki D’Agostino had 11 kills, 18 digs, five aces and five blocks to lead the Muckers to a 25-17, 26-28, 28-26, 26-24 win over Whittell in a Division IV match-up.

Chloe Branson added 11 digs while Kim Tiapa and Bethany Fuller contributed nine digs, and Gwyn Landaburu and Shaylynn Call added eight apiece. Nicole Huffman had 23 assists and 10 kills.

VC is 4-0 in league and 11-2 overall.

Douglas sweeps Cougars

SPARKS — The Tigers improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league play with a 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20 win over Spanish Springs on Tuesday.

No other information was available.

Carson boys at McQueen

The Senators, smoke permitting are on the road for a 3:30 game at McQueen today.

The girls’ squad had its Tuesday game postponed, but no make-up date has been set.


GIRLS TENNIS

CHS match postponed

Carson’s match at Reno High on Tuesday was postponed due to the smoke from the King fire. The match has been rescheduled for Friday.
