Prep roundup: Delgado shines at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD — Eveline Delgado continued her stellar running with a 10th place finish in the Division I girls race at Saturday’s Stanford Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.

Delgado covered the 5k distance in 18:53 or 6:05 per mile. Only .03 separated the seventh-place finisher, Michaela Reynolds of Vista Murrieta, from Delgado.

Shelby Brown was 111th out of 205 runners. She was timed in 21:15. Athena Favero was 136th in 21:41 followed by Rheanna Jackson 152nd in 22 minutes and Gia Wong-Fortunato 154th, also in 22 minutes. Tiffany DeRosa was 179th in 23:03 and Allison Greene was 189th in 23:23.

Vista Murrieta won the team title with 80 points. Carson was 19th with 527 points.

On the boys side, Carson was 28th out of 36 teams.The Senators had 680 points, well behind Vista Murrieta’s 73.

Ian Van Rensselaer was the top CHS finisher, taking 46th in 16:37. Wyatt Cartier was 127th in 17:35 and Josh Merriner was 167th in 17:59. Michael Leiken was 181st in 18:09, Ethan Lopes was 191st in 18:14 and Kiefer Catron was 205th in 18:26. The boys field had 247 runners.

VOLLEYBALL

VC sweeps Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE — Niki D’Agostino had 10 kills and eight digs to lead the Muckers to a 25-10, 25-19 and 25-11 win over the Serpents.

VC is 5-0 in league and 13-2 overall.

Nicole Huffman had six kills, seven aces, four digs and 15 assists and Gwyn Landaburu had seven digs, two assists, two kills and four aces. Bethany Fuller finished with seven kills and nine digs with Shaylynn Call adding six digs.
