Tammy Westergard, department business manager with the Carson City Library, has submitted her resignation.

City Manager Nick Marano confirmed that on Monday and said though he hasn’t seen the letter of resignation he understands she may be leaving for a position in Oregon. Attempts to reach either Sena Loyd, library director, or Westergard weren’t successful.

City government’s Human Resources Department said Westergard started with city government in 2007 and that she has resigned effective June 11. The city’s Finance Department said Westergard’s annual salary as she leaves is at $79,771.

According to Westergard’s Linked-In biography, she was the founding editor of Carson Magazine and was there from 2003-2006. She was with the city’s office of Business Development from late 2007 until 2010, when she moved to the library. There she served in varying capacities, including as interim director from July to December of 2013.

She became interim director after Sara Jones, formerly the state librarian, had been at the helm as director of the local library for six years but left for a position at the Marin County Free Library in California.

Jones and Westergard were involved in efforts during 2011 and 2012 to promote the City Center project, a combined public/private library, technology, retailing and related downtown project in conjunction with Steve Neighbors of the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

Voters in November, 2012, however, rejected such a mixed use concept using both public and private finance near the Carson Nugget casino and now a private sector initiative near the casino is planned. The project envisions a 150 key hotel, technology conference center, office buildings, retailing, and open plazas with amenities mostly east of the casino. It would go to the south of Robinson and west of Stewart streets.
