Mother’s Day Extravaganza

The fourth annual Mother’s Day Extravaganza is May 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center.

More than 40 vendors will be there, and free admission and door prize entries just for attending!! Plus, a drawing will be held for a lucky mom to win an amazing gift basket...so come nominate your mother!

Learn to download eBooks and eAudio books onto your iPad, Tablet, Kindle, Kindle Fire/HD, Android phone, PC, laptop or Nook Color/HD using the Overdrive Media or One Click Digital platforms. We’ll show you how to download library materials and to sidestep any common pitfalls you may encounter. Bring your library card, your device and any questions.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home. Studies have shown that books in the home are an important indicator of a child’s future success. So join us for a fun-filled storytime and check out books to read at home.


Foster/adoptive parent training

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) will hold foster/adoptive parent training on May 9, 16 and 17 in Fallon. Each day runs from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Training sessions will be held in the Lake Tahoe rooms at Banner Churchill Community Hospital,


Ask a lawyer-free

Attorneys and specialists will offer their services for free on May 5 from 12-3 p.m. at the County Commissioners Chambers, 155 N. Taylor St. They will answer questions on family law and wills and probate.

Logos kindergarten

Logos Christian Academy, a private Christian school located at 665 Sheckler Road, is presently applications for kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year.

FAWG meeting

The Fallon Animal Welfare Group (FAWG) meets May 8 at The Pizza Factory, 2199 W. Williams Ave, Fallon. The Fallon Animal Welfare Group (FAWG) is hosting its spring plant and yard sale on May 1 and May 2 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., both days, located at Allen Road Storage No. 51, 1151 Allen Road. Something for everyone.


CC Democrats meeting

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on May 14 at the Churchill County Administration Complex on the corner of North Taylor and A streets in Room 136.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.


Amateur radio

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur Radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio to join us

The A.R.C.C. is a general interest Amateur (HAM) Radio Club serving Fallon, Fernley and surrounding areas.

We have our monthly business social breakfast meeting each month. A NET Every Sunday At 6:00 PM (1800) local time on repeater 146.97 with PL of 103.5 Hz.

Food Service Manager class

Environmental Services Ltd. (ESL), a Reno-based consulting firm, will be offering a Food Service Manager Certification class on May 11 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.at the Depot Casino & Restaurant, 875 West Williams Ave.

This is a ServSafe® Certification class for Food Service Managers in all Nevada counties with the exception of Washoe County.

ESL classes are recognized and approved by the Washoe County District Health Department, as well as the State of Nevada Health Division, and meet all criteria for certification under both jurisdictions.

The class fee of $215 includes the ESLLC Study Guide,” the National Restaurant Association ServSafe Exam, as well as all other class materials. Lunch will be provided, with the lunch hour being devoted to the provided exam review questions. Reservations for this class may be made by submitting a non-refundable $100 deposit to ESL at the address to 2365 Camelot Way, Reno 89509.. Seating for this class is limited.

REUNIONS

Class of 85 reunion

The Churchill County High School Class of 1985 is having its 30-year reunion on Aug. 14-15. The committee is looking for “lost” classmates, and a list may be found on the LVN website and Facebook page.

The reunion will have a Friday dinner, tours of Churchill Vineyards and the Old High School and a private tent at the All-School Reunion.

Class of 75 reunion

The Churchill County High School Class of 1975 is having its 40-year reunion on Aug 14-16. Our next planning meeting will be May 19 at 5 p.m. at the Daily Grind.

A Friday dinner is planned for Aug.14 at the Oats Park Arts Center.

A get together is planned at the community-wide reunion and concert at Oats Park on Aug. 15 and also a Breakfast on Sunday morning. Several Fallon sightseeing tours will be offered on Saturday.

The Blue Sky Thrift Store (formerly Fallon Humboldt Shredders) is located at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Bagged clothing sales, $4 per plastic shopping bag full of clothing available on Saturdays.

Fire hydrant testing

The Fallon/Churchill Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants during April and May in the evenings from Monday to May 17.

During this period of peak fire demand water testing, it is common for water consumers to experience discolored water.

MOPS meeting

Are you the Mother of a Preschooler, birth to 5 yrs.? Do you need a break a couple of times a month?

We hope at our meetings moms will find encouragement, support, relevant teaching, and opportunities to develop relationships with other women who are in the same stage of life. MOPS meets 10 a.m. to noon the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Parkside Bible Fellowship.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.

WNC Earth Week

Western Nevada College Fallon Campus Earth Week schedule:

April 20 — A showing of “Switch” is at 3 and 6 p.m., VRGH 302

This is a documentary about the different energy sources. Popcorn will be provided.

April 22 — Earth Day with the Recycled Art reception from 12:30-5 p.m. in VRGH GETTO. Light drinks and snacks will be served, and an information booth will be available.

April 23 — “Episode 8 of a dangerous future Heat Waves and Water ” starring Matt Damon and “Dexter’s” Michael C. Hall. will show at 5 p.m. in VRGH.
