Carson City investigators are examining evidence from a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place in Douglas County last week.

“We’ve had officers there all day looking at it,” Sheriff Ken Furlong said on Monday.

Douglas County released the names of the six deputies involved in the shooting of Gardnerville Ranchos resident Mark Perkins, 48, who was pronounced dead at the scene after a confrontation on Thursday.

Members of the Douglas County Special Weapons and Tactics Team responded to Perkins’ home at 930 Monument Peak with an arrest warrant on a charge of aiming a firearm at a person.

According to court documents, that person was Perkins’ wife.

Sgt. Dan Coverly, Sgt. Dave Stanley, Investigator Jon Storke, Deputy Jeff Johnsen, Deputy Matt Saylo and Deputy Justin Williams are on administrative leave while the Carson City Sheriff’s Office conducts its investigation.

The six deputies represent nearly seven decades of active service with the sheriff’s office. Coverly has served for 18 years, Stanley and Storke for 13 years, Johnsen for 10 years Saylo for nine and Williams for six.

The shooting occurred at 5:30 p.m., just minutes after members of the SWAT team arrived on scene to take him into custody.

A warrant for Perkins’ arrest was signed at 4:12 p.m. Thursday after the sheriff’s office received a report that Perkins had threatened to shoot his wife, a neighbor and a police officer two hours earlier, according to Undersheriff Paul Howell.

Perkins reportedly had several firearms and came out of his home with two as SWAT team members were preparing to cordon off the home and evacuate neighbors.

Howell said that Perkins pointed two guns at several officers.

“The officers fired their weapons and Perkins was struck by the deputies’ gunfire, and died at the scene,” Howell said.
