The eighth annual Fallon Fights hosted by the city of Fallon in association with Top Rank, Inc. and Let’s Get It On Promotions returns Aug. 22 at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.

Also known as the Rural Rumble, the 2015 event will feature world-class professional boxing.

Local rising star Oscar “Chapito” Vasquez (8-1) of Reno will be taking a big step up fighting in the first eight-round bout of his career. He is set to face San Diego’s Jose Toribio (6-1) in a battle of flyweight prospects. Both Vasquez and Toribio are coming off impressive win streaks, six and four, respectively. August 22 will be the first scheduled eight-round bout for Toribio as well.

“This fight is very important for my career,” Vasquez said. “The winner of this fight will be considered a true contender in our weight division. A lot is on the line. I am happy to be fighting at home again.”

According to Let’s Get It On Promotions’ Tommy Lane, the area once again has a hometown fighter to follow.

“It’s been a few years since Northern Nevada has had a boxer of their own to get excited about,” Lane said. “Most professional boxers don’t ever fight beyond the four or six-round bouts. Only serious prospects and title contenders fight eights and above. For this fight, Oscar will have to prove that he belongs there.”

Headlining the show is rising lightweight star Saul “Kid Dimanita” Rodriguez (17-0, 13 KOs) of Riverside, Calif. Rodriguez faces Ramsey Luna (12-3, 5 KOs) of Corpus Christi, Texas, in an eight round bout.

Also scheduled to fight in Fallon are super bantamweight Victor Pasillas (10-0, 3 KOs), light heavyweight Trevor McCumby (19-0, 15 KOs) and lightweight Luis Ramos (32-2, 10 KOs) in separate bouts.

The main bouts will be televised nationally on Top Rank’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” on Unimas. More details will be announced soon and the fight card is subject to change

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the first bout at 6 p.m. Tickets and information are available by calling the Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority at 775-423-4556 or by email at info@visitfallonnevada.com.
