The Fleet Reserve Association is hosting its annual Americanism Essay Contest, open to students in grades 7-12.

Each entrant must be sponsored by an FRA member or branch. Branch 137 is available to sponsor any student from the Carson City, Tahoe and surrounding areas.

Students must write about what the American flag stands for in a 350-word essay, which can be typed or legibly written on one side of paper. A separate sheet stating the entrant’s name, address, telephone number, school (or “home schooled”) and grade, number of words in the essay and name of the sponsoring member or branch must be included.

Winners are selected at the branch level before moving on to regionals and nationals. The national grand prize is $5,000 with other recognition offered in each grade category.
