Cheering and singing crowds will escort Father Christmas through town in Downtown 2020’s Olde Time Christmas Santa Parade, an annual holiday event that will also offer hot chocolate, candy canes and other seasonal treats.

This year Santa is ditching his sleigh, opting instead to ride in the USS Nevada Burning Man Art Car.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the corner of W. Telegraph and Curry streets at Telegraph Square. It traverses two blocks from Telegraph and Curry streets to Musser and Carson streets, then back to the start. Anyone is welcome to join; the parade lines up at 10:30 a.m. Organizers are hoping local veterans make a strong showing at this year’s event.

Anyone hoping to get a closer look at Santa can stop by the porch at Rocking and Rolling at Telegraph Square from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., when Santa will be handing out candy canes and hot chocolate and posing for photos.

Food by NV Nosh Food Truck from Grandma Hattie’s and Tahoe Tenderloin from Westside Pour House will be available.

Vendors will be at Telegraph Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Other activities include face painting and gift basket raffles by local merchants and restaurants. Tickets for the raffle are available at Rocking and Rolling. Winners will be selected on the day of the parade.

Collections of nonperishable canned food items will be collected to help Friends In Service Helping, or FISH.

For more information or to be a vendor at the event, call Doreen Mack at 775-885-2444.
