An open house to cover proposed changes to Dayton area FEMA flood maps is planned from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Lyon County Utilities Conference Room, 34 Lakes Blvd., Dayton.
Modifications to the Special Flood Hazard Areas along the Carson River may affect nearby property.
The proposed modifications will result in 1,495 parcels being removed from Special Flood Hazard Areas, 341 parcels being unchanged, 142 parcels being placed into the regulatory floodway, and 79 parcels being placed into Special Flood Hazard Areas.
Maps of proposed floodplain modifications will be available at the open house. Representatives from Lyon County, the Carson Water Subconservancy District and other agencies will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is in the process of revising the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) based on new study information. The proposed flood hazard information may include addition or modification of Special Flood Hazard Areas, the areas that would be inundated by the base (1-percent-annual-chance) flood; base flood elevations or depths; zone designations; or regulatory floodways.
These proposed flood hazard determinations, if finalized, will become the basis for the floodplain management measures. The public review and comment period ends Jan. 12.
Comments will be heard at the open house, or they can be emailed to planning@lyon-county.org. Maps also will be available for review at the Community Development offices at 34 Lakes Blvd., Dayton, or 27 S. Main Street, Yerington.
