Food For Thought, Inc. distributed 13,509 bags of food that contained 54,036 meals to food insecure elementary, middle and high school children in Carson City. The 2015 Summer Program served more than 4,500 meals to children at two locations.

Food For Thought, Inc. is a local nonprofit combating food insecurity with one focus: Prevent area children from going hungry on weekends and during the summer. Local elementary, middle, and high school children can participate in the Backpack Program and receive a bag of food on Fridays at their school for consumption over the weekend. Hundreds of meals are distributed each week during the school year. The Summer Program provides meals to area children who are unable to access other lunch programs during the months off from school.

This year the nonprofit established the Infant and Toddler Program with the objective of encouraging student mothers to stay in school by ensuring their babies’ nutritional needs are met by supplementing formula requirements.
