Today is the beginning of the Chinese New Year. The New Year’s holidays last from 5 to 15 days, according to the social and financial standing of the celebrating party. The wealthy hold high carnival for about two weeks, and others only five or six days. During this time, all work is suspended and all appear dressed in the high breath of fashion. The festivities will begin after worship is finished and will consist of New Year’s calls from daylight until dark. On such an occasion, our “heathen Chinese” exhibit unbounded hospitality.

According to the Belmont Courier, Indian Dave, who was indicted by the Grand Jury of Nye County for murdering a man of Chinese descent near Keysers Springs and who was found guilty as charged, was hanged on Friday last at Belmont.

Arrangements have been made for running a special train from Reno to Carson City next Wednesday for “Business Men’s Day” at the Legislature, and it is probably that a large delegation will go to the capital.

A bill was introduced in the Nevada Legislature today to impose an 80-mile-per-hour speed limit in Nevada. The state now has no general limit, although 10 percent are posted for restricted speeds.
