Six artists to be featured at Legislature Carson City

Some of Northern Nevada’s traditional, folk and contemporary artists will appear at the 2015 Nevada State Legislature in “The Work of Artists,” a series of interactive talks and demonstrations designed to engage artists with the community in which they work. The presentations will be free and will be in Room 3100 at the Nevada State Legislative Building.

Baskets of the World with Sande Rowan, a basket maker, teacher and author whose work will be displayed at the LXS Gallery through Feb. 20, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Feb. 18, when Rowan will share a brief history of basket making and demonstrate the traditional coiling techniques she practices.

The Magic of Masks with Michelle Lassaline will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Feb. 24.

Chinese Calligraphy with Gardnerville’s Sonia Carlson, also known as Xian Na, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. March 19.

Natural Dye Introduction with Sarah Lillegard, a mixed media artist from Reno, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. March 30.

Tule Duck Decoys with Mike Williams, a member of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, whose created replicas show duck hunting tools in the Numu or Northern Paiute tradition, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 17.

RenoScapes with Paula Saponaro of Carson City will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 7. Saponaro, whose watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil, pastel and collage pieces investigate the design of the high desert landscape, will talk about her latest series titled NV150 RenoScapes, a portfolio that honors some of Reno’s most iconic images.
