Two Reno residents were killed Saturday when their vehicle clipped a Freightliner tractor-trailer south of Mina on U.S. Highway 95.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the truck driven by Louis Manuel Plascencia, 52, of Madera, Calif. was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 95 when he attempted to make a U-turn. As the rear of the trailer of the semi was still partially in the roadway, it was struck in the left rear side by a 2013 Honda Pilot driven by Duong Chi Ly, 43, of Reno, along with passengers Ardi Ly, 44, Trinh M. Duong, 44, and Steven C. Lee, 50, all of Reno.

As a result of the collision, the driver Duong Chi Ly and Duong died at the scene. Ardi Ly and Lee were transported to the hospital for minor injuries and were released. All occupants of the Honda were wearing their seatbelts. The NHP said the trailer in the roadway and fatigue may be a factor in the cause of the accident.

This area of U.S. 95 is one lane in each direction and the speed limit is 70 mph.
