Inmate, 70, dies at Yerington jail

Lyon County deputy sheriffs discovered a 70-year-old incarcerated person unresponsive at 4 a.m. Wednesday at the Sheriff’s Office detention facility in Yerington.

Although an ambulance was immediately requested, the person was pronounced dead by a deputy sheriff coroner prior to the ambulance’s arrival. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

According to a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office press release, the death appears to be from natural causes. In accordance with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office protocol, the Nevada Division of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation done for all in-custody deaths.
