Junior defensive end Ian Seau has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Friday. Seau is one of four players from the Mountain West listed on the watch list for the award, which is given annually to the best defensive player in the nation.

The Oceanside, Calif., native is coming off an 8.5 sack season in 2014, which ranked tied for ninth in Wolf Pack history. As a sophomore, Seau tallied 39 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 8.5 sacks, five passes defended, one interception and two fumble recoveries. Seau’s 10.5 TFL also ranked tied for third in program history.

Seau played one season of junior college football at Grossmont College before transferring to Nevada. He made his debut as a sophomore in 2013 and registered 23 tackles on the year before posting a breakout season as a junior in 2014. Seau has been a consensus 2015 preseason first team All-MW selection, earning the distinction from Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, Lindy’s Sports and Sporting News.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch list consisted of four players from the MW and 88 players overall. The trophy will be revealed at the annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet on Dec. 7 in Charlotte, N.C.

Corbett named to Outland Trophy Watch List

Sophomore Austin Corbett has been named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, the FWAA announced Friday. The 6-foot-4 left tackle is one of two players from the Mountain West and 81 overall named to the watch list for the award, which is given annually to the best offensive lineman in the nation.

A local product from Sparks, Corbett stepped up in a big way as a redshirt freshman last season and became a leader of the Union. He started in 12 games at left tackle and helped Nevada rank third in the conference in fewest sacks allowed. He also helped the Wolf Pack average more than 200 yards rushing per game and rank fifth in the MW in rushing. Corbett was also an academic All-MW honoree.

Corbett joins Boise State’s Marcus Henry representing the Mountain West on the Outland Trophy preseason watch list. The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 10.

Corbett, Seau and the Wolf Pack open the 2015 season on Sept. 3 against UC Davis at Mackay Stadium. Kickoff time is to be announced. For ticket information, call 775-348-PACK to purchase or register online at NevadaWolfPack.com.
