Carson City woman starts tutoring business

Jaspreet Gill, a local college math instructor and longtime teacher, turned her passion for teaching into a profession, starting her new business, Carson City Tutor, last month.

Jaspreet holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno. She has been helping K-12 and college level students for eight years in Carson City. While working for WNC’s Academic Skills Center and other tutoring agencies, she has prepared several students for math and science competency tests, including the Nevada Proficiency Exam.

Jaspreet charges $30 per hour for one-on-one tutoring sessions, which offer math and science tutoring to K-12 and college students.

Dr. Parsons joins staff at Valley Pediatric Dentistry

Heather Parsons, a graduate of Virginia City High School, is returning to the area to join the team at Valley Pediatric Dentistry in Minden.

Parsons earned her undergraduate degree in biochemistry with distinction from the University of Nevada, Reno. She went on to attend Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she obtained her Doctorate, Magna Cum Laude in 2011. In 2013, she earned her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Stony Brook University Hospital in New York.

Parsons plans on volunteering with Remote Area Medical, a free medical, dental and vision program that will offer services to residents of Yerington, Carson City and Las Vegas in October.

At Valley Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Parsons will offer pediatric dental care while educating children and their families about oral hygiene and its impact on overall health.
