First locomotive. Booth and Company of the San Francisco Union Iron Works have constructed the first California locomotive, and it is appropriately named “California.” It will be used by the San Jose Railroad Company.

All sorts. Since President Cleveland gave the New York Times’ funny man a foreign appointment, there is a clamor for him to get rid of others in a similar way.

Prize for high honor grades. The superintendents of the Comstock Lode have deposited $10 in the Bank of California. It will be payable to the young man who receives the high honor of the graduating class of 1906. (Enterprise)

“What’s Wrong with Carson City” by James Allen (continued). Money was sunk into a beautiful Civic Auditorium, but it just sits there. On the average every six weeks there is a function, but it is empty, except for the selective service in the basement. Next, the town needs some improvement, paving the streets and installing curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Carson has been in a “rut” long enough.”
