Carson City Community Development Director Lee Plemel is set to speak on downtown activity at the Nevada Business Connections (NBC) breakfast June 17.

“He will talk about the Capitol Mall project,” according to NBC Progress, the private sector development organization’s newsletter. The other speaker set to attend, the newsletter said, is Kris Wickstead of GE/Bently, who’s expected to “talk about Nevada’s second largest manufacturer.”

The Capitol Mall project, also referred to by the developer as Capitol Mall North, is envisioned near the Carson Nugget casino downtown primarily on currently vacant surface parking lot land. Developer Carson City Center Development, LLC, plans to construct on about 10 acres a hotel-conference center, office space and retail, along with a plaza and parking garages. The project last week received a special use permit to proceed.

The event is at the Gold Dust West casino, with doors opening at 7:30 a.m., the breakfast and program a half hour later. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for guests. Companies for $200 can reserve a table for eight.
