Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City are presenting the 12th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival, featuring 17 days of music and art at multiple venues in Carson City, Aug. 7-23.

“Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort,” said committee co-chair David Bugli, president of the Mile High Jazz Band Association. “Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free.”

The festival opens on Aug. 7 at the historic Bliss Mansion. An art show on the porch begins at 3 p.m., with tours of the mansion at 4 and 5, and a performance by Cherie and John Shipley with Take This on the lawn at 6:30.

Three Sunday afternoon concerts on the grounds of the Legislature on Aug. 9, 16 and 23 will include performances by Leslie Alice & Bill Hecht, Carolyn Dolan Band, The Red Tango, RVGS Bigger Band, CeCe Gable Band, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

Free concerts also will be held at Carson Mall, Comma Coffee Courtyard, the Brewery Arts Center, and other downtown Carson City venues. Special events are a Motown music lecture and concert, Speakeasy Swing Dance, a Drum Summit, and a Count Basie Birthday concert. A full schedule of events will be available soon at JazzCarsonCity.com.

Festival organizers are seeking additional business and private sponsors, program advertisers, and volunteers. For invitation to a preliminary event for volunteers and information about rates for sponsorships and program ads, call Mile High Jazz Band at 775-883-4154.
