Churchill Democrats

The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Churchill County Administration Complex on the corner of North Taylor and A streets in room 136. Special guest will be Hawah Ahmad, president of the Young Democrats of Nevada.


Golf fundraiser

A golf tournament fundraiser is being held by the History Explorers of Northern Nevada on June 13 at 8 a.m. T

here will be a long drive and closest to the pin competition, great prizes, raffle items, and mulligans, Cost is $20 for members and $60 for non-members with lunch and cart included.

MOPS meeting

The Mothers of Preschoolers group will be taking a summer break from regular meetings. The last scheduled meeting is an informal Play Day on May 27, 10 a.m.-noon at Laura Mills Park.

There is no child care for that day; just bring a blanket or chairs, snacks or lunch and something to drink for you and your children. Don’t forget the sunblock! If you’ve been thinking about coming, this would be a good time to come and get to know some of the moms, their children and the steering team. Call 775-423-3855 for information.


Fernley Republican Women

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) will hold its next meeting at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, on June 16. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Their scheduled speakers are State Controller Ron Knecht and State Treasurer Dan Schwartz. They will update us on political matters from Carson City, especially the tax issues that were argued during the recent legislative session. Museum membership meeting

The Churchill County Museum will hold the annual association membership meeting on June 11 at 7 p.m. at the Museum, 1050 S. Maine St.

Adult Ed new location

Churchill County Adult Ed. is at its new building at 280 S. Russell St. (West End library/art room) holding summer school until June 12.

Museum Spring Lecture Series

You are invited to attend the Churchill County Museum 2015 Spring Lecture Series held on Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m.

On June 9, wildlife biologist Susan Sawyer reconnects us with nature in her presentation “Go Outside.”

Admission is free.


WBC literacy & language program

WNC’s Adult Literacy and Language program will be offering summer school classes (a 3-week session) for those interested in obtaining their high school equivalency diploma. Registration will be held on July 6 and 7 from 9 a.m.-noon in Piñon room 204. For information, call 775-423-7565.

Those interested must attended both days to complete testing and paperwork. This is a limited engagement session. Students will meet one hour each week with the instructor. The other time, students will be required to spend at least three hours each week on their own working on the online program.


Lyon Republicans

The Lyon County Republican Central Committee (LCRCC) will hold its next meeting on June 6 at the Fernley High School library, 1300 Highway 95A, Fernley.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. The LCRCC will be electing a chairman for the 2015-2016 term.

Storytime

Join us for Storytime at the Churchill County Library each Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. and includes stories, songs, and a craft.

The library has hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects for your enjoyment either in the building or at home.

Studies have shown that books in the home are an important indicator of a child’s future success.

So join us for a fun-filled storytime and check out books to read at home.


Amateur radio

The Amateur Radio of Churchill County invites all current Amateur Radio operators or anyone interested in Amateur Radio to join us

The A.R.C.C. is a general interest Amateur (HAM) Radio Club serving Fallon, Fernley and surrounding areas.

We have our monthly business social breakfast meeting each month. A NET Every Sunday At 6:00 PM (1800) local time on repeater 146.97 with PL of 103.5 Hz.

The Blue Sky Thrift Store (formerly Fallon Humboldt Shredders) is located at 290 S. Maine St. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Bagged clothing sales, $4 per plastic shopping bag full of clothing available on Saturdays.

Drop-offs are made at the store location. Proceeds help provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities and families in need through community voucher programs.

The Stuf ‘n Such Thrift Store, owned and operated by Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary, is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., 99 S. Nevada St. Donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Change is good! For the next while, Thrifty Finds will again experience some construction with the Oasis Academy Charter School expanding for the addition of their high school classrooms.

We are still offering our weekly 50% off specials: Senior Sunday for those 50 years and older, Military Monday for those with current, retired or veteran’s ID and Thrifty Tuesday for everyone. These sales are on clothing and shoes (excluding specially tagged items).

Every week we also offer a Surprise 50% off special in different departments rotating within the store.

Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop is located inside the front lobby of Banner Churchill Community Hospital, 801 E. Williams Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Child support enforcement

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office.

The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N. Ada St., or visit www.churchillcounty.org and follow the links to the District Attorney’s Child Support Division.

REUNIONS

Class of 85 reunion

The Churchill County High School Class of 1985 is having its 30-year reunion on Aug. 14-15. The committee is looking for “lost” classmates, and a list may be found on the LVN website and Facebook page.

The reunion will have a Friday dinner, tours of Churchill Vineyards and the Old High School and a private tent at the All-School Reunion.

Class of 70 reunion

Class of 75 reunion

The Churchill County High School Class of 1975 is having its 40-year reunion on Aug 14-16. Our next planning meeting will be June 1 at 5 p.m. at the Daily Grind.

A Friday dinner is planned for Aug.14 at the Oats Park Arts Center.

A get together is planned at the community-wide reunion and concert at Oats Park on Aug. 15 and also a Breakfast on Sunday morning. Several Fallon sightseeing tours will be offered on Saturday.

Class of 65 reunion

The Churchill County High School class of 1965 is having its 50-year reunion on Aug. 14-16.

A Friday night dinner is planned at the Fallon Trap Club. We will be joining the Community Reunion on Saturday, taking advantage of activities planned including the City Concert in Oats Park. We will meet at the Eagles Breakfast on Sunday morning for a final visit.
