Assemblyman Richard Carrillo, D-Las Vegas, is scheduled for an initial appearance in Carson City Justice Court March 25 on DUI charges.

Carrillo was arrested Feb. 27 after a deputy allegedly discovered him asleep in his car in the middle of the night with the vehicle running and his hand on the gearshift.

He was also charged with being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated, also a misdemeanor. Carrillo has a concealed weapons permit and had a .22-caliber pistol in his pocket at the time of the arrest.

He was released the following morning on $6,000 bail.

But since Carrillo declined to take a breath test, opting instead for a blood test, the court appearance may have to be delayed since it could take several weeks to get the test results back from the Washoe County crime lab.

Carrillo is in his third two-year term in the Assembly representing District 18 in Las Vegas.

He has declined to comment about the arrest.
