Update on Nunn’s resignation from school board

Steve Nunn, who was re-elected in 2012 to his second term as a Churchill County School District trustee, resigned his position effective March 1.

The school board accepted his resignation at its Thursday meeting but would not reveal a reason.

The LVN tried to contact Nunn numerous times regarding his letter of resignation, but he did not return calls.

When the LVN spoke to Nunn prior to his official letter of resignation, he said the resignation was due to health.

School board President Ron Evans Tuesday said he’s disappointed Nunn resigned but understands his reasoning.

“I knew Steve has had medical issues for awhile,” Evans said. “I know he had to evaluate the situation … he did what was best for himself and his family. Steve was always more prepared than everyone else on the board and knew what he was talking about. It is a real loss to lose him.”

Trustee Carmen Schank said Nunn will be missed from the board. She said Nunn attended every budget committee meetings and was very knowledgeable when it came to the district’s budget.

“We need good people like Steve on the board who will step up to the plate,” Schank said. “Steve held people accountable and was involved in everything. That really set him a part.”

Former trustee Nona McFarlane said losing second-term trustee is a huge loss to the district and the students.

Superintendent Dr. Sandra Sheldon added a few words about Nunn.

“I appreciate the many years of dedication and service Steve gave to Churchill County School District and its students,” she said.

Nunn has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Trinity Southern University and a bachelor’s degree in Health Science from George Washington University.

Nunn is retired from the Navy after serving a combined 22 years. Nunn also retired from his insurance business in 2013.

Nunn met his wife, Annie, in Reno, and together they have three daughters: Kammie, Kristi, and Stephanie.
