Carson City’s newest bistro opened its doors Tuesday as an outgrowth of Minden’s Tahoe Ridge Winery, with management planning a grand opening when associated winery space is completed there soon.

Tahoe Ridge Winery Bistro & Marketplace at 1105 S. Carson St., located just northwest of the Carson Mall, features the firm’s regionally-produced libations, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, luncheon fare and evening dining, along with special events.

“The winery will be ready by the end of the month and we’ll do a formal grand opening then,” said Howard Jachens, the manager. He said the new location’s permits were received late Monday afternoon and the bistro’s “soft” opening day conformed with normal operating hours, 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. He added those hours are flexible. The bistro closes on Sundays.

Jachens said the bistro is perhaps 3,000 square feet and the wine handling facility is going to be about 5,000 square feet when it’s done. He said the outlet has added 18 full- and part-time employees. Jachens said the Nevada-produced winery’s Carson City location also will offer banquet space and catering.

Olive oil and wine pairing classes are planned as well, and the outlet features wine tastings, a full bar, the olive oil and vinegar market with 56 flavors, and related wine or food paraphernalia. The winery began years ago in Minden and it still has facilities located there. The Minden bistro and marketplace is at 1644 U.S. Highway 395.

The new bistro in the state’s capital is just blocks south of the Capitol and the legislative buildings. The former is on the southeast corner of Carson and Musser streets and the latter is on the northeast corner of Carson and 5th streets. Tahoe Ridge in Carson City is in the renovated former Station Grill restaurant building and is owned by the Carrington Co. of California, which also owns the Carson Mall.
