Two people were killed during the Nevada Day weekend at the Bureau of Land Management’s Sand Mountain Recreation area.

Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said Travis Walker, 37, of Sparks was struck and killed during the early morning hours of Friday by a sandrail driven by Christian Schauman, 36, of Redding, Calif.

A 76-year-old Sacramento, Calif., man died Saturday afternoon at about 5:11 p.m. while riding a quad. The family reported to law enforcement officials that Richard Hill had a significant medical history that may have been related to his death.

Later in the day, Trotter said deputies responded to a call at about 7:43 p.m. of a Reno man brandishing a firearm. He said Justin Crowell, 33, was arrested on numerous counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

According to Trotter, Crowell allegedly pointed a firearm at and threatened numerous people in the campground area.

Crowell posted bail, and Trotter said the Reno man was then released from custody.
