Community spotlight: Carson City’s Silver State wins Fall Fest crown

The Silver State Gymnastic Academy’s Level 4 team won the team title at last weekend’s Fall Fest in Grass Valley.

In the Level 4 older group, Jessica Stine was second on the vault and third in the beam. In the younger Level 4 group, Eviana McGowan was first on floor and second on bars, while Eliana Hollar won beam and was third all-around. Bella Planeta was second on vault and third on floor, and Emily Lewis was third in vault, bars and beam.

In Level 3, Danica Studley was second on bars and second all-around in the Middle Division. In the Younger Division, Alexis Gardner was first on bars, second on floor and first all-around. Kiera Windsor placed third on bars.


Senators advance in Pop Warner

Carson knocked off Hawthorne, 45-0, last weekend in the Division 3 playoffs at Governors Field.

Carson will now play the Sparks Ducks Saturday at 11 a.m. at Governors. The Ducks won the regular-season match-up 19-13.

Zach Guthrie threw two TD passes — a 56-yarder to Alex Myrehn and an 18-yarder to Decarlo Quintana. Isaac Avina scored on a 72-yard run, Eduardo Orozco had a 36-yard TD burst, Jacob Campbell scored from the 3 and Eli Outz scored from the 4. Orozco also scored on a 40-yard interception return. Caid Milligan, Schuyler Clark and Miles Frewart provided the blocking.

Quentin Beck and Robert Henn had fumble recoveries. Nate McKee and Evan Lillie led the tacklers with six and five, respectively.


Pemberton wins at Empire

Bob Pemberton shot a net 63 to win the A flight at Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club final event of the season on Oct. 28.

David Knighton was second with a 64, while Jim Shabi, Nils Sharpe and Mike Logue tied for third at 66. John Pearson won Flight B with a 57. Dan Rodgers and Dennis Small had 63s. Steve Isaacson followed with a 65 and Bob Blom had a 66.


Cabela’s hosts event

On Saturday, fishing at Pyramid Lake will be the main topic covered by experts at Cabela’s.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be a series of seminars on fishing in general and Pyramid Lake in particular. The seminars will cover about what fishing equipment and what tackle works best at Pyramid. New fly casting technique will be covered along with boating safety.

Regional commissioner of AYSO Soccer named

Justin Townsend, associate at Allison MacKenzie Law Firm in Carson City, has been named Regional Commissioner of Carson Valley American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO).

Carson Valley AYSO serves youth in Region 318, comprised of Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa, Smith Valley, Topaz, and Wellington, as well as Coleville, Woodfords and Markleeville.

As Regional Commissioner, Townsend’s responsibilities will include: organizational leadership, business management, engaging local youth and encouraging participation in AYSO.

Townsend joined Allison MacKenzie in 2013. After graduating from Brigham Young University in 2006, he earned a law degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University in 2010.
