Fenians, attention: There will be a meeting of the Fenian Brotherhood for the purpose of hearing addresses and for the purpose of devising ways and means of helping along the glorious cause of old Ireland. Be on hand all Irishmen and those who are on the side of liberty and progress.

All sorts. There will be a “fan party” at the skating rink ... splendid music, rare fun and a general good time. The miners at the C & Shaft in Virginia City are required to work 10 hours a day.

Low water in Truckee River. The electric lights have been very low. The trouble is caused by the low stage of water in the Truckee River. It is hoped to improve matters by opening the gates at Lake Tahoe.

Clay in Las Vegas. Cassius Clay arrived in Las Vegas, joking with Joe Louis. The heavyweight champion is already a 13-15 favorite to defeat Floyd Patterson.

Alzheimers. The Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, is being silenced by Alzheimer’s disease. “He doesn’t tell as many stories as he used to,” daughter Maureen Reagan said.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
