The Bureau of Land Management published its revised Environmental Assessment for the American Flat Road/Lucerne Access Right-of-Way project. Comments about the project, which is in Storey County south of Gold Hill, will be accepted through Oct. 20.

In July 2012, Comstock Mining submitted an application to amend its existing right-of-way for use of the American Flat Road. The amendment would also allow the construction, operation and maintenance of an exclusive use haul road between Comstock Mining’s mining operation in the Lucerne Pit and its heap-leach processing facility in American Flat. Modifications to the existing American Flat Road for public safety would also be authorized.

A draft memorandum of agreement has been drafted to resolve the potential effects from the project on eight historic properties in the area. Public input is also sought about the memorandum.
