Steve Scharfe shot a net 64 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club stroke play event on Sept. 30.

Dennis Justin was second (65) and Tom Welton was third (66).

Robey Willis won Flight B with a 62, three shots better than Henry Teague and four shots better than Nick Paul. Ken Cuneo won Flight C with a 61, three shots ahead of Rich Bremenour and four shots better than Don Wilson and Lee Ghiglieri. Tom Harlow won Flight D with a 64, a shot better than Peter Youngdahl and three ahead of Steve Isaacson.


Golf tourney at CVGC

The annual Oktoberfest Golf Tournament is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Carson Valley Golf Club.

The cost is $40 which includes golf, cart, lunch and beer.

Palmer wins club title at Dayton

DAYTON — Andrew Palmer beat the field by five shots in the final round to win the Dayton Valley Palmer Club Championship played Oct. 3 and 4. Charging like the club’s legendary namesake Arnold, with whom he shares a surname but no relationship, Palmer shot rounds of 72 and 75 for a 3-over total of 147.

Defending champion Jeff Miller finished in second place four shots back at 151. Marco DiGiacinto finished third another four shots back at 155. The other prizewinners in the gross division were Seth Allison fourth, Mike Griswold fifth and Bob Frazee finished sixth.

Randy Bird won low net honors with a 2-under 142 total. Randy Anderson and Kim Staley tied for second with 145 totals and Rankin Lynn and Zan Roder tied for fourth at 146. David Barnes finished sixth, Rich Wilde seventh, Kelly Sheehan eighth and Don Robertson and Fred Saunders tied for the 10th and final spot in the money.


YOUTH FOOTBALL

Reno Miners beat Carson Jr. Pee-Wees

The Reno Miners broke open a close game with three quick touchdowns to win 32-6 over the weekend.

Eduardo Orozco returnd a kick-off 70 yards for Carson’s only score. He also rushed for 41 yards. Alex Myrehn had 54 yards rushing and Zack Guthrie had 31. Caid Milligan, Christian Smith and Frank Gomez played well on the offensive line. David Smith and Miles Frewert had sacks, Isaac Avina had an interception, and Parker Story and Quentin Beck had fumble recoveries.

Carson plays the Reno Wolfpack Saturday at 11 a.m.
