The Russian Grand Ballet is bringing “Swan Lake” to the Carson City Community Center on Sunday.

The full-length classic production of the world’s most famous ballet —Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” — will be performed by Russia’s brightest ballet stars.

“It’s one of the most famous ballets in the world,” said Kyle Horvath, social media manager for the Carson City Visitors Bureau, which is assisting the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department in sponsoring the show. “It’s a Russian theater company presenting the historic Russian ballet. This is probably one of the biggest cultural events to ever come to Carson City.”

“Swan Lake,” along with “The Sleeping Beauty” and “The Nutcracker,” forms part of the big three of Russian 19th century ballets.

It tells the story of a prince seeking his true love. He falls in love with a swan princess, who has been cast under a spell to live as a swan during the day and a human only under nightfall.

Determined to break the spell, the prince vows to marry the swan princess but is tricked into marrying another.

“There’s a good reason why ‘Swan Lake’ is so often called the ‘ballet of all ballets,’” according to the Russian Grand Ballet website. “The combination of pure romanticism, the story about love and deception and Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet music all continue to reach new generations of audiences.”

The full-length ballet will be presented in three acts with two intermissions.

Tickets can be purchased at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St., the Carson City Visitors Bureau, 716 N. Carson St., or visitcarsoncity.com.
