The man allegedly told family he was trying to die from suicide by cop by threatening police with a gun. Bail was set at $3,000.

Reno teen found dead, man arrested in Storey County

A Reno man was arrested Monday morning in Storey County on a charge of open murder of a Reno teenager. Authorities say at 4 a.m., Storey County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a possible intoxicated driver coming into Virginia City, but when officers tried to stop the vehicle the driver, identified as 19-year-old Elijah Henderson of Reno, allegedly crashed the vehicle on Six-Mile Canyon Road. Henderson was arrested and taken into custody.

State and local water rules need revising in order to deal with Nevada’s water scarcity. Court overturns Eureka water permit

The Nevada Supreme Court has overturned the state engineer’s decision to grant the Mount Hope Mine in Eureka more than 11,000 acre feet of water saying the planned pumping would damage existing senior water rights in the area.

David Torres sentenced to maximum 4 years in prison for assault

David Torres was sentenced to 19-48 months in prison for assault on a peace officer in Carson City District Court Tuesday morning. Torres was arrested May 24 after deputies responded to reports of a man threatening to throw his infant into a swimming pool near the 400 block of Saliman Road. Upon the arrival of deputies, Torres threw a bicycle at two officers before leading deputies on a foot pursuit across 5th Street where he was cornered in the Juvenile Detention grounds and threatened officers by pretending he had a gun in his waistband and yelling “bang” as he pretended to pull it out. One deputy, injured during the incident, was placed on medical leave for a year.

Last member of major meth trafficking ring was sentenced in Carson City District Court Monday. Tawnee Johnson, along with six other people, were arrested when Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force raided a house in the 3500 block of Desatoya Drive in early March. Authorities seized nearly 11 ounces of methamphetamine with a street value of more than $30,000.

Two arrested after high speed chase in Carson City

Two people were arrested Thursday morning after a man lead police on a high speed chase in Carson City. The incident started at 8:15 a.m. at the Carson Street Motel 6 after a man called deputies to report a Ford Mustang GT his ex-wife, Jennifer Robertson, had possession of was in the motel parking lot and he wanted to get back rightful possession. Robertson, 37, claimed she didn’t have the keys to the vehicle with her, and deputies cleared the scene and left the man to wait for a tow company for the car.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office offers reward for officer assault information

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward for anyone with information on an assault on law enforcement officers. On Sept. 1, at 8:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office Raven Helicopter was on a routine patrol over downtown Reno when it was struck by a laser several times. The laser caused damage to the pilot and observer’s eyes and the helicopter was forced to land at Stead Airport. Both officers were taken to the hospital for treatment.
