GARDNERVILLE — At approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Douglas County Deputies responded to the 1400 block of Edlesborough Circle for a suspicious circumstance report. When deputies arrived they found evidence of a crime. Deputies made entrance into the residence and found a female victim dead in the living room and a male barricaded inside the residence

Douglas County Sheriff’s CNT and SWAT team members made contact with the male inside the residence with the use of a robot. The male appeared to be in medical distress and the SWAT team made entry and extricated the male, who was then transported to the hospital with an unknown medical condition.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence at approximately 11:25 p.m. and they have begun the investigation.

This is an active homicide investigation. The male has not been placed into custody at this time, pending the outcome of the investigation.

All roads into the Chichester Estates are open and there’s no threat to the public.

No other information is being released at this time.

The discovery of the dead woman in the living room of the Gardnerville home led to the standoff which closed off the main access into Chichester Estates for three hours.

Sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Pat Brooks said when deputies entered the home they found the woman’s body and a man barricaded inside.

Members of the Sheriff’s Special Weapons and Tactics and crisis negotiation teams responded.

Neither the man nor the woman were identified as of Tuesday night.
