100 Years Ago

King Percy B. Kinney and Queen Hattie Ferguson. Percy B. Kinney was chosen Alfalfa King in the spirited contest for Alfalfa King. Miss Hattie Ferguson was elected Dairy Queen. The feeling between the two leaders for Dairy Queen, Miss Cora Cahill and Miss Hattie Ferguson, was so cordial and happy that the committee decided to confer honor upon Miss Cahill by making her Maid of Honor to the queen.

Churchill County Eagle — September 18, 1915.

The Alfalfa Palace. The Alfalfa Palace at the corner of Maine and Center Streets is something entirely out of the ordinary and is attracting much attention from visitors. The Palace will house the Churchill County Agricultural exhibit, and it is here that the King and Queen will preside and receive their subjects, the visitors to the Nevada State Fair.

Work at Caves will be Suspended Until Spring. Work will be suspended in the caves thirteen miles east of Fallon. Sunday will be the last day for visitors. Materials taken from the caves are now being preserved in Carson City where they will be available to archaeologists and others for study, said Wheeler.

The Fallon Standard — September 25, 1940.

Fallon has Largest Colonies of Ibis. The largest colony of Ibis in the United States is that in Churchill County, according to James Savage of the U. S. fish and wildlife service. Typically a bird of the tropics, the Ibis comes northward for the nesting season. Despite the supposition that the Ibis is destructive, it is one of the farmer’s best friends, Savage declared. Examination of their crops shows nothing but insects.

Kiwanis Annual Breakfast. Kiwanis have practiced up on their pancake flipping for the big annual breakfast on Labor Day. Final preparations are being made to handle the anticipated crowd. The chuck wagon breakfast begins at 7:00 a.m. at the parking lot behind Hillyards.

Fallon Eagle Standard – September 3, 1965

Sights and Sounds of Fallon. ●Lonnie Fudge, the daughter or Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Fudge will enter Reno Business College this week. Lonnie is a 1964 CCHS graduate, and for the past year has been employed at Kents. ●Louis Rommerdall didn’t learn of his luck in winning the Honda raffle for several days after the event. “What Honda” said Louis in bewilderment when Emily Mitchell asked him if he had been driving his new Honda to work. ●Mr. and Mrs. Byron Strickland amd Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Dennison of the Fallon Square Dance Club went over to the Nugget Convention Center in Sparks to attend the Nevada Square Dance Convention. They report the crowd and dancing both were fine.
