State officials say installing a new computer system will force a one-week blackout in Nevada’s unemployment insurance program.
The head of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation employment security office in Carson City says jobless benefits insurance computers will be taken offline at 5 p.m. Monday.
Program chief Renee Olson says people can file ahead of time.
After that, they won’t be able to file new claims, check claim status, access accounts or update information until 8 a.m. Sept. 28.
Department telephone claims lines will also shut down, because representatives won’t have claims information.
Officials say the outage could affect thousands of businesses and 26,000 people with active claims, plus approximately 3,000 people who typically file first-time jobless claims per week.
Scheduled in-person interviews will still take place.
