Emigrants. Two families named Messrs. Tate and Spencer arrived from Iowa by way of the plains. They left on the 24th of May from the Missouri River. Their train consists of six wagons and 22 head of stock.

130 Years Ago

All sorts. Jose Antone appropriated a saddle at the Voltaire mine and now has been saddled at the State Penitentiary for two years.

Sen. Walker was attacked by coyotes and had to climb a tree (Lyon County Times).

110 Years Ago

All sorts. Horses are stranded in Reno due to hard luck in the races. Their owners usually come out pretty well, but this time the owners ran into bad luck and now are tied up with their animals.

70 Years Ago

Carson High School Chatters. First edition of the Carson Chatters for 1945-1946. The editors are Dorothy Wigton, senior, and Mickey Laxalt, sophomore. Reporters were Moss Helen Little, Marie Laxalt, Dorothy Satcher, Bill Hancock and Eleanor Springmeyer.

Arlington Hotel. The Arlington Hotel is cited as “a fire hazard ... structurally unsound ... a public nuisance ... and unsanitary.” The tenants in the Arlington will have 90 days to move before their shops will be posted with notices “Unsafe to enter.” Sixty-six other buildings in Carson City must either be razed or brought up to code.

Yucca dump. One-third of workers employed overseeing Nevada’s Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump are facing layoffs because of unexpected agency budget cuts.
