Feb. 24, 1955: High tribute paid to Carson City’s National Guard

HIGH TRIBUTE to Carson City’s National Guard unit was paid recently when a tablet direct from the National Guard bureau in Washington, D.C., was presented to Gov. Charles H. Russell, center above. Presentation of “I am the Guard” illustration was made by Maj. Gen. James May, right, and Col. Jack LaGrange, commander of headquarters detachment, Nevada Air National Guard. The representation tells the story of National Guard history, including its military accomplishments as well as service to civilians in time of peace. Citing the Carson City units as a component part of Nevada National Guard activities, Gen. May said that Nevada’s Guard strength has reached 120 officers and 898 enlisted men. Hqs. and Hqs. detachment here, headed by Lt. Col. E.P. Chambers, has 14 officers and 70 enlisted men; and Battery A 21st AAA here has a total of 4 officers and 32 enlisted men headed by Lt. Bob Butler, according to May.
