SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: We do value our time

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson City community for stepping up and fundraising enough funds to bring Charles T. Sehe to Carson City from Minnesota so he can visit with and have his picture taken with Gov. Brian Sandoval, visit the USS Nevada memorial on the east side of the Capitol Building and visit the Nevada State Museum to view the U.S.S. Nevada’s artifacts.

Sehe was on the Nevada during World War II.

Donations are still being accepted. Donations are accepted in the Charles T. Sehe Fund Account No. 6998187071 at Wells Fargo Bank, 2424 S. Carson St., Carson City 89701, 775-885-1111.

In an email to the Appeal, Ken Beaton, who told Sehe’s story last week in the Appeal, said, “Now, we can show Charles T. Sehe our hospitality and say “Thank you for your sacrifice.”

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson City Carillon and Clock Committee who raised money and continue to this day to ensure the clock at the Laxalt Building on Carson Street has kept ticking.

After clock restoration in early 1999, the community raised $11,000 led by the fundraising efforts of Bill and Dottie Kelley. The fundraising efforts ensured the clock could play “Home Means Nevada,” as then-Gov. Kenny Guinn drove past, a tradition that continues today.

Steering committee members of the Carson City Carillon and Clock Committee as listed in the Nevada Appeal in 1999 include: Chairman Nancy Dunn, representing the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Vice Chairman Bill Hartman, chime installer, Secretary Dottie Kelley, Treasurer Dorothy Dolan and Publicity Officer Bill Kelley, Mike Meizel from State Building and Grounds, Kari Jones from the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Mainstreet Committee, Lee Carter and Robin Williamson of the Carson City Redevelopment Authority.
