Positions for dozens of Nevada Army Guard soldiers will relocate to the Office of the Adjutant General here this summer, eventually resulting in about 80 new part-time jobs for the state’s capital city.

About 70 jobs will move from Las Vegas to Carson City in July when Detachment 1, 150th Support Maintenance Company, consolidates with its headquarters unit, the 150th Support Maintenance Company.

About a dozen other Carson City jobs will either be created or moved to the capital with the establishment of the 360th Field Trial Defense unit (three Soldiers) and the transfer of the eight-Soldier 106th Public Affairs Detachment from Reno to its new headquarters at the OTAG.

Most of the 80 jobs moving to Carson City are traditional National Guard positions. National Guardsmen usually work or train in their military positions one weekend per month and an additional 15 annual training days per year.

The 150th Support Maintenance Company is capable of supporting a wide variety of organizations and can maintain a broad spectrum of equipment, including wheeled vehicles, electronic gear, armaments and power generation equipment. When fully staffed, the consolidated unit will include about 140 soldiers.

The reorganization of the 150th Maintenance Company made sense for a variety of reasons, said unit commander Capt. David Tole.

“We will improve our unit’s efficiency by placing all of our soldiers at one location. For example, we no longer need multiple personnel, finance, supply and training sections,” Tole said. “The consolidation of the unit promises to reduce travel costs as well as improve internal communications.”

The southern Nevada 150th soldiers who currently work at the Floyd Edsall Readiness Center have the option of remaining with the 150th and commuting to Carson City or transferring to other units in Las Vegas with maintenance positions, including the 1-221st Cavalry and the 777th Forward Support Company.
