LAS VEGAS — Bryce Moyle scattered seven hits over six innings, and Jace Keema drove in two runs to lead the Carson Senators to an easy 7-1 win over Alta-Utah Friday afternoon at the Bishop Gorman Easter Invitational at UNLV.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak at the tournament. Carson concludes play today at 8 a.m. against O’Gorman-South Dakota at UNLV. Carson hosts Reno at 3:45 Tuesday as league play resumes.
Moyle threw 86 pitches before giving way to Derek Schafer, who pitched a scoreless seventh. Moyle fanned eight and didn’t walk a batter. Seven of the outs came on groundballs.
“Bryce threw well,” CHS coach Bryan Manoukian said. “Today, his off-speed wasn’t what it needed to be early, but he found it later in the game.
“Offensively, we had a lot of bloop hits and infield hits. We did a good job of putting the ball in play. They made a couple of errors we capitalized on.”
Connor Pradere led off the game with a single, advanced to second on an infield out, stole third and scored on an error.
Terek Been singled and came around to score in the second, and the Senators made it 3-0 in the third when John Holton’s sacrifice fly scored Cody Azevedo, who had reached on a walk.
Alta scored one in the fourth to make it 3-1, but Carson scored twice in the fifth and twice in the seventh to win easily.
Pradere singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch for the first run in the fifth, and Kellen McDermott, a courtesy runner for Krebs (who had singled), scored on a sacrifice fly by Keema. In the seventh, Keema and Been each drove in a run.
Pradere, Holton and Abel Carter all had two hits, while Krebs, Keema, Been, Jayson Artz and Jesse Lopez added one each.
