The Fallon Chamber of Commerce opens the doors Friday at 9 a.m. for the spring job fair with more than 25 businesses and government agencies expected.

The Chamber, along with other businesses, sponsors a job fair at least twice a year — the last one in November. Friday’s job fair runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Wok Banquet Hall, 257 S. Maine St.

Executive Director Natalie Parrish of the Fallon Chamber of Commerce said the job fair seeks to connect qualified individuals with local businesses who have openings.

Parrish said Fallon and surrounding community members are welcome to participate and to take part in morning workshops and seminars. She said job seekers may look at the current job openings, deliver resumes, meet with local businesses, conduct possible onsite interviews and have face-to-face contact with many hiring businesses.

Job seekers, said Parrish, have a better chance of impressing employers with a neatly looking resume. By looking at the list of participating businesses, which is included in this article, Parrish said individuals should find out more about the businesses of which they are interested.

“Employers complain about resumes that don’t stand out,” Parrish said. “The resume is your first impression.”

Parrish said good grooming and proper attire are also important and will leave a better impression with the interviewing business or government agency.

November’s job fair drew about 300 people, but Parrish said only a quarter of attendees were considered for employment.

Additionally, she said the job fair is offering free resume and interview seminars and one-on-one consultations throughout the event. Parrish said the Chamber will also offer free digital headshots for resumes, LinkedIn profiles, etc. during one hour of the morning starting at 10 a.m.

Businesses and organization participants for the spring job fair include The Wok, Fallon Auto Mall, Fallon Right Away, Janess Print & Marketing, Louie’s Ace Hardware, Nevada Job Connect, Western Nevada College, The Homestead, Fallon Nugget/Bonanza, Patracorp, Highland Village, Nevada Department of Corrections, Nevada Departments of Transportation, Navy Exchange, SP Counseling, Crystal Cleaners, JOIN, Manpower, Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Fox Peak, SOC (Hawthorne Army Depot base contractor).
