The state highway board today took steps to slow down traffic on the stretch of U.S. Highway 50 from the speed zone through New Empire to the Carson City limits.

There has been no speed limit on the mile-long stretch of highway, and motorists have been clocked at speeds up to 80 miles an hour approaching Carson City.

The new posted speed for the stretch will be 35 miles an hour, the board agreed.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
