For the third year, Virginia City is hosting #FlashbackFriday Museum Days, an opportunity to tour a dozen of the historic town’s museums. While admission is waived, donations are encouraged, as many of the museums rely solely on contributions to keep their doors open. #FlashbackFriday Museum Days are the first Friday of each month from May through October.

A museum pass, required for admission, is available at the Virginia City Visitors Center, 86 S. C St. It also includes a 10 percent discount on lunch at the Mustang Ranch Steakhouse, 5 N. C St.

“This has proven to be a successful event for our local museums,” Deny Dotson, tourism director for the Virginia City Tourism Commission, said. “These museums exist to protect and foster learning of Nevada’s mining history. This event is a great way to expose new visitors to our town and the great amount of history we have on display here.”

Participating museums include: Comstock History Center; Historic Fourth Ward School & Archives; Julia Bulette Red Light Museum; LEC #1 Comstock Firemen’s Museum; The Mackay Mansion; Piper’s Opera House; St. Mary’s Art Center; St. Mary’s in the Mountains Catholic Church & Museum; Silver Terrace Cemeteries; Storey County Courthouse; The Washoe Club Haunted Museum and The Way It Was Museum.

Dates for the 2016 #FlashbackFriday Museum Days are: May 6, June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 2 and Oct. 7. Virginia City’s #FlashbackFriday Museum Days are sponsored in part by the Mustang Ranch Steakhouse. For more information visit Virginia City Flashback Friday Free Museum Days.
