The Postal Order System goes into operation at the Carson Post Office tomorrow. We believe the Aurora office will also begin with the system at the same time. This will be a very great convenience, as well as a saving to the people, and we rejoice that the arrangements have been finally completed.

Dave Bigler lost another valuable horse on Sunday. The animal broke his thigh while rolling, and had to be shot. Rather hard luck.

Word came from Austin this morning that Fred Holmes had been convicted of murder in the second degree in District court in Austin for the murder of T.S. Mays at Battle Mountain last February (Battle Mountain Scout).

Charging that he and his family, during a two-week vacation throughout the West, had good accommodations at very reasonable prices until visiting Carson City, another irate tourist today wrote to the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Ballot questions addressing road repair in Carson City received a shot in the arm from some residents Thursday as the Board of Supervisors passed on first reading two ordinances raising the sales tax one quarter of 1 percent and raising the gas tax 1 cent per gallon. The ordinances are subject to voter approval in the November general election.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
