The Mint: Work on the foundation and ground floor of this structure progresses regularly and rapidly. We noticed Col. Mills, Mr. Knox, Mr. Eckfeldt and a Col. Curry were overlooking the job yesterday and taking a general view of the surroundings of the capital.

Bungling demagogues: A few months ago several hundred conscientious, well meaning men were doing all in their power to rid this community of the Chinese. What are these men now doing in the anti-Chinese fight? Absolutely nothing beyond going about and smelling their neighbor’s washing.

The magnitude of a storm last Thursday can only be appreciated by those who actually saw the great mass of flood waters as it tore through the south draw of Spring Mountain range. The storm itself proved to be a freak. It traveled in the form of a horseshoe form north of Potisi mountain thence south to Goodsprings, then north again (Goodsprings Gazette).

For the third consecutive Friday night, Carson City and neighboring area music lovers will be treated to a band concert on the lawn of the state Capitol building. The local volunteer band, under the able baton of A. (Dutch) Berning, will present marches, waltzes and overture and Spanish serenade for the enjoyment of the listening public.

Carson Valley residents were saddened to learn the conflict in Vietnam has claimed its first valley soldier. Staff Sergeant Norman L. Kooks, 30, was killed in combat last week.

If the home-field advantage pertains to cycling, Greg LeMond had three aces in his water bottle before the Coors International Bicycle Classic began. LeMond outsprinted a congested pack down Virginia Street to win Wednesday’s Squaw Valley to Reno Road Race.
